The demand is normally distributed with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 25. In this example, the block uses the RENO internal function called &#8220;rvm&#8221; to return a random value based on the Demand model.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 2<\/b>: Use a conditional block to check whether the supply meets the demand, as shown next.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"dt_image40\" class=\"dt_image\"><div class=\"image-align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\"img-responsive style-default\" src=\"http:\/\/www.safetyangel.com\/recdev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Untitled-9.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div><div id=\"dt_text41177728728591\" class=\"dt_text\">\n<p>If the demand is less than or equal to quantity of papers on hand, then the number of papers sold is equal to the demand. The block uses the RENO internal function called &#8220;in&#8221; to pass the value from the previous block (Demand) to the &#8220;true&#8221; path.<\/p>\n<p>If the demand is greater than the quantity of papers on hand, then the number of papers sold is equal to number of papers on hand. The block will then pass the Quantity variable to the &#8220;false&#8221; path.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 3<\/b>: Use two standard blocks to calculate the amount of revenue from the true and false paths. In these blocks, &#8220;in&#8221; indicates that the output of the previous block will be inserted into the equation.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 4<\/b>: Use a result storage block to calculate the average revenue from both paths.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"dt_column_42\" class=\"dt_column col-sm-5\"><div id=\"dt_text43177728728569\" class=\"dt_text\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0093d5;\">Simulation<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For this example, a single simulation run will provide a single answer; thus, multiple runs will be needed to arrive at an optimum solution. This can be done by performing a sensitivity analysis.<\/p>\n<p>On the General Settings page of the RENO Simulation window, specify <b>5,000<\/b> simulations. Enter a seed of <b>1<\/b> for repeatability, as shown next.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"dt_image44\" class=\"dt_image\"><div class=\"image-align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\"img-responsive style-default\" src=\"http:\/\/www.safetyangel.com\/recdev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/renoexo1_5.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div><div id=\"dt_text45177728728523\" class=\"dt_text\">On the Sensitivity Analysis page, specify to vary the quantity of newspapers. Start by exploring the area from <b>50<\/b> to <b>150<\/b>, with an increment of <b>10<\/b>.<\/div><div id=\"dt_image46\" class=\"dt_image\"><div class=\"image-align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\"img-responsive style-default\" src=\"http:\/\/www.safetyangel.com\/recdev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/renoexo1_6.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div><div id=\"dt_text47177728728574\" class=\"dt_text\">\n<p>Based on these settings, RENO will perform multiple runs of 5,000 simulations each, with Quantity valued at 50 in the first run, again with it valued at 60, again at 70, and so on until it has reached the maximum value of 150.<\/p>\n<p>When the simulation completes, close the RENO Simulation window and then generate a plot by choosing <b>Simulation &gt; Simulation Plot<\/b> or by clicking the <b>Plot<\/b> icon on the diagram\u2019s control panel.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"dt_column_48\" class=\"dt_column col-sm-1\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"dt_row_49177728728524\" class=\"clearfix dt_row\"><div id=\"dt_column_50\" class=\"dt_column col-sm-12\"><div id=\"dt_row_51177728728560\" class=\"row dt_row\"><div id=\"dt_column_52\" class=\"dt_column col-sm-12\"><div id=\"dt_row_53177728728537\" class=\"row dt_row\"><div id=\"dt_column_54\" class=\"dt_column col-sm-1\"><\/div><div id=\"dt_column_55\" class=\"dt_column col-sm-5\"><div id=\"dt_text56177728728525\" class=\"dt_text\">\n<p class=\"caption\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The following plot shows that the optimum value lies somewhere between 80 and 100.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"dt_image57\" class=\"dt_image\"><div class=\"image-align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\"img-responsive style-default\" src=\"http:\/\/www.safetyangel.com\/recdev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Untitled-5.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"dt_column_58\" class=\"dt_column col-sm-5\"><div id=\"dt_text59177728728534\" class=\"dt_text\">\n<p class=\"caption\" style=\"text-align: left;\">To further refine the results, increase the number of simulations to <b>50,000<\/b> and focus on the region between <b>90<\/b> and <b>96<\/b>, incrementing by <b>1<\/b>. On the Multiple Analysis page of the Simulation window, use the settings shown below:<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"dt_image70\" class=\"dt_image\"><div class=\"image-align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\"img-responsive style-default\" src=\"http:\/\/www.safetyangel.com\/recdev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/renoexo1_10.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"dt_column_71\" class=\"dt_column col-sm-5\"><div id=\"dt_text72177728728531\" class=\"dt_text\">\n<p>Based on these settings, RENO will perform up to three analyses (or fewer if the results converge to within 0.0001 of each other before the three analyses are complete) to find the maximum value of the result storage block called &#8220;Average Revenue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Each analysis will consist of the number of runs determined in the Sensitivity Analysis page. In addition, the number of simulations will be increased by 2,000 in each subsequent analysis to further refine the results.
