Opportunities for Certifying Groups of Engineers
If you are an Engineering Manager interested in having large groups of engineers certified at the same time, please contact us to discuss your particular needs and develop a plan of action. We can assist you in ways that range from scheduling convenient and cost-effective on-site seminars to developing a required curriculum plan that will meet your organization’s specific objectives. For example, if your organization is focused on certain, more specialized, aspects of reliability, such as Design for Reliability (DFR) or maintainability, we can work with your team to develop a detailed schedule of recommended courses to better suit those specific needs while still ensuring that all requirements for CRP certification are met.
Tracking and Publicizing Your Certification
The CRP program uses a web-based system to manage and track your progress toward certification. When you enroll in the program, you will receive a unique CRP Number to identify and allow you to access your account. When you have completed all program requirements, and if you have given permission for the CRP program to publicize your achievement, a record of your certification will be published on the CRP website.
20 of the 40 credits required for CRP certification must be earned through completion of eligible training courses.

15 of the 40 credits required for CRP certification must be earned through a project that demonstrates the candidate’s ability to apply the learned body of knowledge in a way that will benefit his/her company. This page describes the typical process and reporting requirements.
The candidate conceives a project that applies relevant reliability engineering concepts and techniques in a way that will benefit his/her organization.
The scope of the project should be:
The candidate submits a project proposal to the CRP Board for review and initial approval.
Please use the required “Project Proposal Form” and submit proposals to the ReliaSoft office that serves your region. If you have questions, you may also contact CRPAdmin@ReliaSoft.com.
Project Proposal Form – (*.DOC, 52 KB)
Proposal Review Criteria – (*.PDF, 68 KB)
If the proposal is accepted, a Project Mentor will be assigned to identify any issues that may need to be addressed before moving forward.
It is important to note that a CRP Project Mentor is not a consultant or coach. It is the candidate’s responsibility to design and carry out the project, and to submit materials for review at each stage.
Mid-way through executing the project, the candidate submits a report of the project status for review and feedback.
Please use the required “Project Status Report Form” and submit to your project mentor.
Project Status Report Form – (*.DOC, 52 KB)
At project completion, the candidate submits the final project report for review and approval.
Please use the required “Project Final Report Form” and submit to your project mentor. (Note that the paper or presentation that is delivered in an industry conference or journal in order to satisfy the CRP presentation requirement must be attached to the final report.)
Project Final Report Form – (*.DOC, 48 KB)
The Project Mentor and the CRP Board review the final report to ensure that the project meets the CRP requirements.
5 of the 40 credits required for CRP certification must be earned by publishing a paper or delivering a presentation in an industry conference or journal. The paper/presentation must demonstrate the candidate’s experience from completing the CRP project.

Is it possible to substitute one of the “core curriculum” requirements?
Yes, with specific approval. The CRP “core curriculum” has been designed to ensure that all CRP recipients possess the minimum required skills for performing reliability-related work. In most cases, the minimum course requirements will be strictly adhered to. However, if a participant is unable to get company approval to attend a training course in a subject area in which he/she already has demonstrated expertise, substitutions can be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact CRPAdmin@ReliaSoft.com to discuss your specific circumstances.
Can I earn credit for training courses that are not included on the eligible courses list?
No. In order to ensure the integrity and value of the certification, the CRP program can only grant credit for training courses that have been evaluated and approved by the CRP Board. The most up-to-date list of approved training courses is posted on the web at http://www.safetyangel.com/recdev/reliability-training/
Could a project that was completed before I began working toward CRP certification be counted toward the CRP Project requirement?
No. The CRP Board will not accept a project proposal for a project that has already been completed. However, you may submit a proposal for a project that is already in progress. If the proposal demonstrates that the project meets the established criteria for CRP certification, the CRP Board will accept the proposal and assign a Project Mentor.
Could a paper or presentation that was published before I began working toward CRP certification be counted toward the CRP Presentation requirement?
No. In order to satisfy the CRP Presentation requirement, the paper or presentation must be used to communicate some or all of the results of your CRP Project, which must be based on new work performed while working toward CRP certification.
Can I earn CRP credit by participating in a group project or co-authoring a paper/presentation?
No, unless specific conditions are met. In order to earn CRP credit, it must be clearly demonstrated that the participant’s individual work is sufficient to meet the requirements for CRP certification. If a group of CRP participants choose to work together on a project, each participant must submit a separate project proposal that clearly identifies the aspect of the project that he/she will be individually responsible for, and that aspect by itself must be sufficient to meet the requirements of a CRP project. Likewise, the CRP Presentation credit can only be granted to the individual who is identified as the principal author for any given paper or presentation.
Can I earn CRP credit for any reliability-related paper or presentation?
No. In order to satisfy the CRP Presentation requirement, the paper or presentation must be used to communicate some or all of the results of your CRP Project.
What is the role of the CRP Project Mentor?
When your project proposal is accepted by the CRP Board, a Project Mentor will be assigned. The Project Mentor will review the technical aspects of your project prior to project initiation, midway through the project and at the completion of the project. When appropriate, the Project Mentor may provide feedback based on his/her experience with the subject, including suggestions for improvement and issues that need to be addressed before moving forward.
It is important to note that a CRP Project Mentor is not a consultant or coach. In other words, the Project Mentor will not tell you how to design and carry out your project and he/she will not initiate reminders about specific tasks that may need to be completed. It will be your responsibility to compile and submit materials for review at each stage of the project and to find ways to address any concerns or issues identified by the Project Mentor.
Have there been any changes to the CRP certification requirements?
Yes. The CRP certification requirements were modified in January 2007 and again in November 2013. Participants will be allowed to complete the certification under the requirements that were in place when they entered the program. If you have any questions, please contact CRPAdmin@ReliaSoft.com.
